Aileen & Kieran

Foxglove, Wellington

This Saturday was a blast. I had sore cheeks by 4pm, and I wasn’t the one meant to be smiling.

I don’t know if it was Aileen’s cats running amok during the morning, the Cardinals beating the Dodgers, those tequila shots during reception, or simply two people in love, but Aileen & Kieran seemed to be having a blast too.

Thanks for kick-starting our wedding season with such a beautiful celebration – congratulations!

2014 NZIPP Wedding Album of the Year

Rachel & Sam

In addition to the Wedding – Classic category, Jason also took home the trophy for Wedding Album of the Year.

The judges called it “great photography meets great design“, and that’s something we pride ourselves in. It’s even in our name! We’re not just photographers, we’re an all-round creative team, and every aspect of our presentation is carefully considered.

As with previous years (2012, 2013) we’re always aiming to create something different, something unique, something not seen before.

Rachel & Sam’s theatrical wedding was an obvious choice, even before we’d started on the design, and during brain-storming and concepts, we started creating the idea of a movie/theatre “storyboard”.

The following design was born. Rachel & Sam, in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream“.

Stacy & David

Tarureka Estate – sneak peeks

One of the biggest compliments we can receive is being asked to photograph the sibling of a previous bride or groom.

A few weeks ago we had the privilege of photographing Stacy & David’s wedding at Tarureka Estate? in Featherston.

After photographing Stacy’s brother’s wedding 2 years ago, we knew their family would be kind, welcoming, and plenty of fun.

We weren’t wrong.

I’m 2 weeks late delivering a sneak peek, so here’s 15 of them!

Paul & Trent – Making History in Wellington, NZ

Because of you no dreams can ever splinter

To fragments, you are the magic that bonds each part.

Paul & Trent, one of the very first same-sex couples to be married in New Zealand, after the passing of the marriage equality bill. This is marriage equality history.

All we are doing with this bill is allowing two people who love each other to have that love recognised by way of marriage.

Here are two people in love. Enjoy.

Memories. Moments. Family.

My grandfather passed away last week, quietly, in his sleep, after a battle with illness.

The family were gathered, reminiscing, chatting, remembering all the good times. Then my sister spoke of one of her lasting memories of him: this touching photo that Aneta captured at her wedding. During the post ceremony hugs & kisses, champagne and laughter, they shared this small moment.

Memories. Moments. Family.

This is why we do this.

Greer & Caleb

Tarureka Estate, Featherson

What the boy felt at that moment was that he was in the presence of the only woman in his life. He was more certain of it that anything in the world. And that with no need for words, she recognised the same thing.

Greer & Caleb at Tarureka Estate. Page 1 of Chapter 2.

Simply a perfect day.

Nikki & Jimmi – Erskine, Island Bay, Wellington

Will you, Jimmi, promise to always reach things off high shelves for her?

Nikki & Jimmi, perhaps mismatched in height, but such a perfect match in so many other ways, married at one of the very last wedding ceremonies Erskine may see. Fascinators and hats, midnight ghost hunts, street signs, handmade stationery and decorations, vintage cars and a beautiful and poignant wedding favours. Tears flowed, laughter followed, and the wedding cake was cut with a sword.

Nikki & Jimmi also featured in one of my NZIPP Award winning prints from IRIS 2012 – more to come on that soon!

(This wedding also featured over on Junebug Weddings this weekend.)

Verity & Nathan – Tirohana Estate, Martinborough

“I not only love Verity with all of my heart, but I love loving her.”

Under a large tree, in front of their closest friends & family, amongst the vines of one of the greatest wineries in Martinborough, we witnessed Verity and Nathan’s wedding.

Here is their story.

Amanda & Geoff – NZIPP Iris Awards Wedding Album finalist

Boof! POW! Wham.

At the 2012 NZIPP Iris Awards I was looking to enter something a little different. A little unique. A little more rock ‘n roll than a traditional wedding album.

The idea of a comic book came to me, and using Amanda & Geoff’s Wellington wedding I managed to craft a pop-art, stylised comic book artbook. It received a Bronze medal, and placed me as a finalist in the Wedding Album category!

Hope you enjoy the story of Amanda & Geoff’s wedding, as much as I enjoyed creating it.

Thanks Amanda & Geoff!

Jono & Emma – bespoke invitation design

Jono and Emma were really keen to have a photographic invitation. They had hunted around to find vintage clothing in colours to match their wedding colour scheme of maroon and sky blue. One warm mid-winter day we headed out to the Silverstream Railway Museum to take some engagement photos, which set the scene for their vintage travel inspired wedding. More from the wedding coming soon!

The invitation was a simple card incorporating their colour scheme. It featured a collage of the photos on the front and the wedding details on the back. These details included the web address for the wedding website we also created for them. This allowed them to give more information about the wedding day, the bridal party, show off some more of their photos, and even gave their guests a place to register their attendance.

Rebecca & Mark – Old St Paul’s & The Boatshed

The tiny ray of sunshine that burst through during our bridal photos on the Wellington waterfront wasn’t the best moment of Rebecca & Mark’s wedding day. That would be Rebecca first emerging in her stunning wedding dress. Or the choice of music during their wedding ceremony at Old St Paul’s. Or watching their nerves settle as they read their vows and exchanged rings. Or watching them practise their first dance in the stairwell of The Boatshed. Or listening to embarrassing stories told by the bridal party. Or crazy faces in the Photobooth and just as crazy dance moves on the dancefloor.

The ray of sunshine was beautiful, but Rebecca & Mark’s entire wedding day was full of just as many beautiful moments, the kind of moments we strive to capture and love to share.

Enjoy!

Hannah & Zac – Erskine, Island Bay, Wellington

There’s always something special when there’s a little one involved. A commitment has already been made, the family is underway, and the beautiful marriage ceremony completes the union.

Part indie & part rock. The Foo Fighters mixed with the Juno soundtrack. Balloons and wind-up toys. Suits & ties and Converse shoes. Hannah & Zac’s style infused throughout the day – and a willingness to have a bit of fun!

Amanda & Geoff – bespoke wedding stationery

The main aim of Amanda & Geoff’s day was to have fun and be themselves. Their wedding stationery allowed them to do just that – a whimsical idea designed with scientific precision…

As they are both in science-based jobs we included science undertones in their wedding day stationery. The front of the invitation featured a logo with their initials in the form of elements from a periodic table. As the ceremony was held on Remembrance Ridge high up in the Wellington Botanic Gardens, they wanted to include the garden in some way. So we entwined the logo with green leafed vine, which also featured as decorative pieces on the inside and created a pattern for the back of the RSVP postcard, which was perforated for guests to post back to them.

It was only natural for the seating plan to take the form of a periodic table on the wedding day – every guest’s initials made up an element of the “highly scientific” chart. The guests definitely had to have their thinking caps on to find their place at the Wellesley Boutique Hotel!

Each table had a number with the buffet menu on the back, and each guests place was marked with their periodic element on a card wedged in their fork – a fun way to display a place card.

Josephine & Thomas – Kowhiti, Greytown

There’s a lot of beautiful venues in the Wairarapa, but none may be quite as special as Kowhiti House. For Josephine & Thomas, returning from the UK, it was the perfect spot to spend a few days with close friends and family and celebrate their marriage. For their guests, the perfect spot for a fantastic day and an even more amazing night.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Josephine & Thomas!

As a little bonus we’ve edited the funniest images together for a small slideshow for the rest of you to enjoy.
